Finding Your Voice: Advocacy and Life with IIH

IIH-Hub.com closed IIH awareness month by hearing from our IIH community and their challenges when it comes to weight bias, being a woman of color, insurance barriers and so much more.

On September 30th, 2026 IIH-Hub.com hosted Kenitra W. Dominguez, author of Because I Deserve It. She is a patient with IIH who wanted to share her medical journey and experience in navigating the US healthcare system with a chronic, underdiagnosed condition. Her book was written to offer guidance for those with a chronic disease when it comes to workplace accommodations, dynamic shifts with friends and family and how to prepare for medical visits.

This practical and empowering guide will show the reader how to stand up against systemic barriers, prepare for appointments, how to communicate to your medical team and so much more.

Because I Deserve It can be purchased through many online bookstores, including Amazon and Bookshop.org.
